Home / Electricity Savings Calculator
Calculate in seconds how much electricity and energy costs businesses in Graz and across Styria, Austria can save each year by switching to modern LED lighting – free and without obligation.
All figures are estimates based on your input and do not replace individual energy consulting. For an accurate calculation for your project, we're happy to advise you personally.
Whether you call it an amortization calculator, LED savings calculator, ROI calculator — or simply an "electricity savings calculator": our calculator shows businesses in Graz and throughout Styria in seconds what an LED retrofit is actually worth. LED lighting is today the most economical and, at the same time, the most environmentally friendly solution for office, industrial and outdoor areas. Compared to classic halogen, fluorescent or mercury vapor lamps, modern LED technology needs up to 70% less electricity at equal or better light output. This not only noticeably lowers your ongoing operating costs, but also reduces your company's CO₂ footprint: since the Austrian electricity mix already comes largely from renewable sources such as hydropower, every kilowatt-hour saved has a direct effect on your climate balance. On top of that, LED fixtures last significantly longer — meaning less maintenance, fewer lamp replacements and less electronic waste. Especially for industrial and warehouse lighting in storage facilities, production sites and workshops with long operating hours, the retrofit pays for itself particularly quickly through the high savings.
Calculation example: 200 m² warehouse
20 halogen floodlights at 150 W → 20 LED high-bay fixtures at 40 W
Operation: 10 hrs/day, 260 days/year, electricity price €0.28/kWh
Result: approx. 5,720 kWh and around €1,600 in savings per year – with 73% less electricity consumption.
These are exactly the default values of our calculator above – simply try it with your own numbers.
How quickly does an LED retrofit pay for itself?
Depending on your starting situation, an LED retrofit typically pays for itself within 1 to 3 years through the electricity costs saved. For intensively used areas such as warehouses or production sites with long operating hours, it often happens even faster.
How much CO₂ does an LED retrofit save?
That depends on the electricity saved and the regional electricity mix. Since the Austrian electricity mix largely comes from renewable sources such as hydropower, every kilowatt-hour saved has a noticeable effect on your company's CO₂ balance — in addition to the direct cost savings.
Are there subsidies for LED retrofits in Austria?
For businesses, there are subsidy programs for switching to LED lighting through Kommunalkredit Public Consulting (umweltfoerderung.at) as well as, in some cases, through the Austrian federal states. These subsidy programs change regularly — we're happy to inform you about currently available subsidies for your project.
Which values should I use for a realistic calculation?
You'll usually find the exact power consumption of your current lighting on the lamp itself or on the fixture's rating plate. For an exact plan including the right LED alternative, we offer free, no-obligation advice.
How do you calculate electricity consumption and electricity costs for lighting?
Electricity consumption is calculated as power (watts) × operating hours per day × operating days per year, divided by 1,000 to get the figure in kilowatt-hours (kWh). Multiplied by your electricity price per kWh, you get the annual electricity costs. For an LED retrofit, simply calculate this value separately for the old and new lighting — the difference is your savings, exactly as our calculator above does automatically for you.
